A brief introduction to my skill set, and what I can offer you
Web Development
I've been developing websites for over 8 years now. Creating websites from scratch before CMS was available and then transitioning to WordPress development as my core focus and means of development and creation. I consider myself to be a web expert.
Design
Whether UI/UX, print ready, digital or vector based artwork I do a bit of everything. I was a senior designer at a well known printing company for 3 years prior to further branching my skills. I am capable and more than willing to meet your design needs.
SEO & Marketing
A website without traffic is like a car without petrol, it looks good, but it's certainly not beneficial. I do everything from extensive SEO, to social media marketing and even PPC advertising such as Google Ads. I am also proficient with analytic tools.
My Journey So far
Before you start. This might be a bit long-winded for some, if you’re purely looking for reference sake, please visit the “My History” page found in the hamburger menu (top right). If you’d like to get to know me a little better and would like to read about how I ended up where I am today, keep reading.
My journey started off almost 10 years ago as a junior graphic designer at a company called Ornaje Printers, based in the Free State. I worked at Oranje for a total of three years, during this time I was exposed to an array of design techniques, accumulated a lot of experience and gained an invaluable work ethic and appreciation and understanding for deadline-driven tasks. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oranje and was promoted to a senior designer in my third year at the company at which time I decided to move on to bigger and better things.
During my time at Ornaje Printers, I had taken the initiative to learn some new skills. During my three years at Oranje, I did my A+, N+, MSCP, and a basic entry-level course in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. This allowed me to apply for jobs within the web industry, which is exactly what I did. A few, what feels like hundreds, of attempts later, I finally got a response from a company by the name of Come Alive, based in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal. To my excitement, they had agreed to take me on as an apprentice. A week later, my resignation was in and I started packing for the move to KwaZulu-Natal. The next 2 years went by in a blink as I learned more about website design, marketing skills and development work. Slowly but surely I was improving and soon I was promoted to the title: Website Designer. Sadly, not long thereafter the company split, with one of the owners starting a new company by the name of Digital Pond at which time I decided to look for work elsewhere for a number of reasons I wont bring to light.
A local ISP (Internet Service Provider), by the name of Tech5 were looking for website developers. I submitted my CV, got the interview and shortly after was formally offered the position, which I gladly accepted. I was employed at Tech5 to manage, maintain and grow the website, graphics and marketing side of the company with future possibilities of employing staff to assist me in my efforts. I managde an array of tasks, from quoting and invoicing my clients, managing my small team, maintenance of our apache server, creating marketing strategies and over course there’s the development and design side of things. I was the lead designer/developer as well as the manager of my department. There’s a lot to be said about my time at Tech5 and the invaluable skills I obtained while working for the company, however, I did end up leaving the company at the end of 2022
I am currently self-employed and have a small, private, clientele that I take care of on a monthly basis, this has allowed me the much-needed time to refresh and brush up on my skillset and new tools that have become prominent in the design and development industry. I have never felt more confident in my skillset and more excited to find a company that I can dedicate my time and resources towards. I’ve been working remotely for nearly 2 years now and pride myself on my work ethic and communication skills.
